ARK News… A Kurdish activist and former detainee of the Syrian regime said that there are more than half a million detainees in the prisons of the Syrian regime since the beginning of the revolution in Syria in 2011.

During his participation in the Rebaz News bulletin on Monday, January 19, 2022, the Kurdish activist Shapal Ibrahim said: The Syrian regime has continued its crimes against detainees in prisons since 2011 until now, and it wants to silence the detainees' voices using all intimidating methods.

Shapal explained, "There are dozens of detainees whose fate is still unknown, indicating that it is not possible to count an exact number of detainees in the regime's prisons due to their large number, but it is more than half a million detainees."

The Kurdish activist added, "The international community has not taken serious sanctions against the Syrian regime, and this is the reason why Assad continues his crimes."

As for international organizations following up on the file of detainees, Ibrahim says: International organizations document the names of detainees and communicate them to international bodies, and they cannot take more steps than this in this regard.

The Kurdish activist confirmed that "the Assad regime has committed many mass massacres against detainees, and the mass graves are a witness to that."
