Cement Prices Double in Syrian Kurdistan, Adding Pressure on Citizens
ARK News.. Local sources have reported a dramatic 100% increase in the price of cement across towns and cities in Syrian Kurdistan, placing a growing financial burden on residents.
According to sources from the city of Qamishlo, cement prices have surged significantly in recent weeks, with the cost of one ton now reaching $200 USD—double the previous price of $100 USD before the Newroz holiday.
The sharp rise is reportedly due to the halt in cement imports from the Kurdistan Region of Iraq since Newroz Day.
Sources added that traders and brokers affiliated with the PYD administration have shifted to sourcing cement from factories in the countryside of Damascus, significantly increasing transportation costs and, consequently, market prices.
