Syria Issues In-Absentia Arrest Warrant for Bashar al-Assad
ARK News.. Damascus’ Seventh Investigating Judge has confirmed that Syria has issued an in-absentee arrest warrant for deposed president Bashar al-Assad over charges related to the 2011 Daraa events.
In a statement to the state-run SANA agency, Judge Tawfiq al-Ali said the warrant includes charges of premeditated murder, torture leading to death, and unlawful deprivation of liberty.
The judge noted that the ruling paves the way for the warrant to be circulated through Interpol and pursued at the international level.
He explained that this step follows a lawsuit filed on November 23, 2011, by families of victims of the Daraa events.
