U.S. Calls on Countries to Accelerate Repatriation of Detainees in Northeastern Syria
ARK News.. The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that it is working to establish a joint coordination mechanism in northeastern Syria to facilitate the repatriation of detainees and displaced persons held in camps and detention centers — including the Al-Hol camp — back to their home countries.
Speaking at a United Nations conference in New York focused on camps and detention facilities in northeastern Syria, CENTCOM Commander Gen. Brad Cooper urged countries to speed up the return of their nationals.
"Earlier this month, I personally visited Al-Hol camp and witnessed the urgent need to accelerate repatriation efforts. Progress is being made, but I look forward to doubling these efforts together with all of you," Cooper said.
He revealed that CENTCOM is in the process of establishing a “Joint Repatriation Cell” in northeastern Syria to coordinate the return of both detainees and displaced persons to their respective countries
