Tripartite Agreement Signed to Resume Kurdistan Oil Exports
ARK News.. A landmark tripartite agreement has been signed between the Kurdistan Regional Government’s Ministry of Natural Resources, Iraq’s federal Ministry of Oil, and oil-producing companies to restart crude exports from the Kurdistan Region.
According to Kurdistan24, an informed source revealed that both ministries have formally approved the terms of the deal, with no remaining legal or technical disputes between the parties or with the oil producers.
Under the agreement, crude will be delivered to SOMO via North Oil Company infrastructure and exported through Turkey’s "Ceyhan" port. The Kurdistan Region will supply 230,000 barrels per day to SOMO while retaining 50,000 barrels per day for domestic consumption.
Oil exports from the Kurdistan Region had been halted since March 2023 following a ruling by a Paris-based arbitration court, which found that Turkey exported Kurdistan’s oil between 2014 and 2018 without Baghdad’s consent. The court ordered Turkey to pay $1.5 billion in compensation to Iraq. While Ankara has appealed the decision and a final ruling is still pending, Turkey has stated its readiness to resume pipeline operations.
