Final convoy of Afrin IDPs to depart for their hometowns tomorrow
ARK News.. The ninth and final convoy of internally displaced people (IDPs) from Afrin currently residing in the cities of Hasaka and Qamishlo is scheduled to depart for their hometowns on Thursday, July 16, 2026.
Mustafa Abdi, a member of the presidential team tasked with implementing the January 29 agreement between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), told Welat TV that the final convoy of Afrin IDPs living in cities across Hasaka Governorate will leave tomorrow for their towns and villages in Afrin.
The move is part of ongoing efforts to facilitate the return of displaced residents to their places of origin under the January 29 agreement, which provides for the safe and organized return of IDPs to their home areas.
The eighth convoy, which departed on June 10, left from Qamishlo, Derik, and Girke Lage, carrying approximately 1,700 families back to Afrin.
The first convoy departed from Hasaka on March 9, transporting around 400 families to Afrin as part of a gradual return process coordinated by the Syrian government and the SDF.
