Iran: Strait of Hormuz is a red line and we can control it remotely

ARK News.. Following the U.S. naval blockade on Iranian ports, Iran declared that the Strait of Hormuz is a "red line" and vowed to resist "until the end."

According to Reuters, Iranian Army spokesperson Brigadier General Mohammad Akrami Nia said on Thursday, July 16, 2026, that the Strait of Hormuz—through which around 20% of global oil and gas shipments passed before the outbreak of the war—is a "red line" for Iran, which, he said, maintains full control over the strategic waterway.

Akrami Nia added that the United States believed it could gain control of the strait by attacking Iranian military bases along the country's southern coastline.

He further stated: "The Islamic Republic of Iran has the capability to control the Strait of Hormuz from any point within its territory, and this capability is in no way dependent on the coastline or the islands."

The remarks came after the United States carried out a fifth consecutive night of strikes on Wednesday and reimposed a naval blockade on Iranian ports, a move Washington says is intended to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran closed last Saturday following the collapse of a fragile ceasefire agreement.
