Foiled Attempt to Smuggle Weapons Shipment Destined for Hezbollah via Syria

Jul 17 2026

ARK News.. The Syrian Ministry of Interior announced on Friday, July 17, 2026, that it had foiled an attempt to smuggle a large shipment of advanced weapons across the Syrian-Iraqi border, seizing it before it entered Syrian territory.

In a statement published on its Telegram channel, the ministry said the operation came after security forces detected a vehicle parked within the border area under suspicious circumstances. The vehicle was searched, leading to the seizure of a shipment of weapons that included long-range missiles, anti-tank guided missiles, and unmanned aerial vehicles (drones).

The ministry added that preliminary investigations, based on the evidence and findings collected during the operation, showed that the shipment had been intended to transit through Syrian territory to Lebanon for Hezbollah militants.

The Syrian Ministry of Interior confirmed that investigations are ongoing to uncover all the circumstances surrounding the case, identify all those involved, and determine the networks linked to the attempted arms smuggling.
