A communiqué issued by the General Secretariat meeting of the Kurdish National Council in Syria

ARK News: The General Secretariat of the Kurdish National Council in Syria met, on December 12, 2019, and reviewed the topics on its work schedule after checking and stopping for a minute of silence in the respect to the lives of Kurdish martyrs and freedom:

The meeting reviewed the political developments in the region, as well as the visit of the Presidency of the Kurdish National Council to the Kurdistan region of Iraq after it conducted a series of meetings in the presence of its representatives in the coalition and the Syrian Negotiating Body and the Office of Foreign Relations and the Constitutional Committee, and it held two separate meetings with the President of the Kurdistan Region, Mr. Nechirvan Barzani, and His Excellency President Masoud Barzani, the meeting stressed the importance of continuing to communicate with the concerned countries with the Syrian file, and to work with various opposition forces to find a political solution to the crisis in the country and the Kurdish issue in Syria, and supporting the stabilization of the rights of the Kurdish people in the constitution to be written under international patronage, rejecting any sectarian or racist tyranny in its principles, abolishing the chauvinist policies applied against it and compensating those affected.

The meeting stopped at length on the prospects for the situation in the Kurdish areas (Afrin - Sari Kaniye – Gire Spi - Tal Tamr countryside) after Turkish forces intervention in support of the Syrian armed groups loyal to them, and the result of that is the displacement of hundreds of thousands of civilians to the people of these areas from their homes, as a result of inhuman violations and practices and documented against the sons of all components of the region, the meeting strongly condemned these violations, and called on the international community to fulfill its moral responsibilities in preventing the demographic change process that is taking place in those areas, and to exercise its role and impact in creating a safe environment for the safe and peaceful return of refugees to their homes, and to compensate them for the damage that had done to them.

The meeting stressed the importance of the council’s role in the Syrian national opposition, continued communication and cooperation with all its frameworks, and following the principle of constructive dialogue in strengthening the relationship with it.

The meeting also called on various international relief organizations to provide assistance to the displaced and refugees, and in this context, it highly valued the ongoing support of the Barzani Charity Foundation to alleviate the suffering of the afflicted.

The meeting stressed the importance of the unity of the Kurdish position in Syria, calling on the PYD party system to take concrete steps on the ground, the first of which is confidence-building measures and lack of exclusivity in crucial decisions, and respect for the privacy of the Kurdish people in Syria and their militant sacrifices, and to return to the previous agreements concluded between it and the Kurdish National Council, especially the Duhok Agreement, which was held with the kind patronage of the leadership of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.

The meeting denounced what was stated in the statement of the 14th Astana meeting and its disregard for the Kurdish issue in Syria, and its rejection of any form of self-government under false pretenses... The also condemned the statements of the representative of the regime participating in this meeting and his denial of the existence of a Kurdish issue in Syria, intentionally forgetting that it is one of the most important national issues that require a just political solution within the framework of a general political solution to the crisis in the country in accordance with the relevant international resolutions and the Geneva path, it also deplored the statements of the representative of the armed opposition, who deliberately concealed the truth about the number and suffering of the displaced and refugees, and the size of crimes and violations that have committed daily against civilians by some armed groups, the meeting expressed its interest in the importance and necessity of communicating with the various components of the region, with a view to strengthening and deepening civil relations between members of society, preserving its unity and maintaining its civil peace, and in this context mandated its local councils and its competent offices to achieve this, in addition to holding mass meetings to explain the political situation and listen to their visions and proposals.
