ARK News… Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel and Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke by phone and expressed their desire to strengthen their "strategic partnership" in 2023, according to a Cuban official statement issued Thursday.

"The two leaders discussed joint and mutually beneficial projects in the fields of energy and industry," the statement said. They also expressed their mutual desire to continue strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries.

About the conversation that took place on Wednesday, Diaz-Canel said on Twitter: "We presented the excellent results of our recent visit to Russia and confirmed the common will to deepen political dialogue and economic, trade, financial, and cooperative ties."

The Cuban president, whose country is facing the worst economic crisis in thirty years, went to Russia in late November as part of an international tour that also included Algeria, Turkey, and China.

At the end of the tour, Diaz-Canel said that he had signed several agreements on oil supplies with Russia and Algeria, with the aim of ensuring stable electricity production and reviving the economy.

Since May, Cuba has been suffering from a deficit in electricity production, but the situation has stabilized since the second half of this month, with less severe outages, according to France Press Agency.

The Russian government also recently donated 25,000 tons of wheat to the communist island, according to the Cuban newspaper Granma.

The Cuban President, on Wednesday, received in Havana, US Democratic Senator Ron Wyden, who supports the abolition of the embargo and sanctions imposed by Washington on Cuba.

"I received US Senator Ron Wyden and expressed to him my desire to work together to improve bilateral relations for the benefit of our two peoples," Diaz-Canel said on Twitter, adding that he detailed "the impact of the severe actions of the United States government on the Cuban people."
