Kurdish National Council in Syria Issues Statement on the Deteriorating Living and Service Conditions in the Jazira Region and Across Syria

ARK News.. The General Secretariat of the Kurdish National Council in Syria (KNC) issued a statement regarding the deteriorating living and service conditions in the Jazira region and across Syria, affirming that the de facto authorities in the Jazira region, along with the relevant government bodies, bear full responsibility for this deterioration and the growing humanitarian suffering experienced by citizens.

The full text of the statement follows:

The Syrian Jazira region, along with all areas of Syria, is witnessing a sharp and unprecedented deterioration in living and service conditions, to the point that a large segment of citizens has become unable to secure their basic daily needs.

This reality constitutes a severe blow to the foundations of life and stability, especially as this crisis is deepening in a region rich in oil and agricultural resources and substantial economic potential, which should have been reflected positively in the lives of its residents rather than becoming an additional source of suffering as a result of poor management and the absence of sound planning.

The successive decisions concerning increases in fuel and essential commodity prices, accompanied by a significant rise in transportation costs, agricultural production expenses, and food prices, in addition to the near-total interruption of public electricity supply, are no longer merely a temporary or emergency crisis. Rather, they have come to reflect economic and service policies that have exacerbated the living burdens on citizens, particularly low-income earners, farmers, and workers, leading to a clear decline in productive and agricultural sectors and negatively affecting the overall economic and social reality of the region.

The Kurdish National Council in Syria holds the de facto authorities in the Jazira region, along with the relevant government bodies, fully responsible for this deterioration and the increasing humanitarian suffering endured by citizens.

The Council emphasizes that continuing to justify these crises by citing general circumstances is no longer convincing in light of the lack of transparency and the mismanagement of available resources and wealth, which have contributed to depriving the residents of the Jazira region, and Syrians in general, of their most basic living and service rights.

Accordingly, the Council calls for the immediate reversal of the recent fuel price increases and the adoption of urgent measures to curb the continuing rise in prices in a manner that alleviates the burden on citizens and preserves what remains of their purchasing power.

It also calls for a comprehensive review of existing economic and service policies; the provision of necessary support to the agricultural and productive sectors; the adoption of the highest levels of transparency in managing revenues from national resources—including oil, agricultural resources, and public revenues—and directing those revenues toward improving essential services, foremost among them electricity, water, and infrastructure.

The Kurdish National Council in Syria reiterates its support for citizens and their legitimate demands for a dignified life and access to basic services, warning that continued disregard for these demands and the worsening economic and service crises could lead to serious social repercussions that threaten societal stability.

The Council further stresses that the genuine solution to the crisis begins with reforming existing policies and managing national resources in a way that ensures justice and transparency and safeguards the dignity and rights of citizens in the Jazira region and throughout Syria.
