The reason for the appointment of the Kurdistan Flag Day on the 17th of December
ARK News: 17/12 of each year has been identified for the flag of Kurdistan, and various ceremonies and events are held on this occasion in the circles and institutions of the Kurdistan Region, Syrian Kurdistan, and European countries.
The raise of the flag of Kurdistan on the building of the Municipality of Mahabad on 17.12.1945 was counting an important shift in the political history of the Kurdish people, where more than 74 years ago, for the first time, the flag of Kurdistan was officially raised on a government building before the announcement of the Republic of Kurdistan in Mahabad on January 22, 1946.
Although the life of the Republic of Kurdistan lasted only 11 eleven months, the flag of Kurdistan remained a thundering over the national struggle waged by the liberals and militants in the mountains of Kurdistan.
After 59 years to raise the flag of Kurdistan for the first time, the Kurdistan Parliament decided on the nineteenth of June 2009 by resolution No. 48 set on the seventeenth of December of every year a day for the flag of Kurdistan.
The Kurdistan flag is a symbol of the territorial integrity of Kurdistan and the national identity of the people of Kurdistan.
The colors of the Kurdistan flag symbolize:
The red: symbolizes the blood of martyrs and the constant struggle for freedom and dignity.
Green: Reflects the beauty and scenery of Kurdistan, life, and vitality.
Yellow: Sunlight represents the source of life and light. The twenty-first
sun rays represent March 21, the day of Nawroz.
White represents peace and equality.
