Syrian Foreign Minister Extends Official Invitation to Iraqi Counterpart to Visit Damascus
ARK News.. Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani has extended an official invitation to his Iraqi counterpart, Fouad Hussein, to visit Damascus. The Iraqi foreign minister welcomed the invitation, with both sides agreeing to coordinate later on setting a date for the visit.
According to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the invitation was extended during a meeting held on the sidelines of the Arab Consultative Meeting and the resumed 165th Ordinary Session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level, hosted by the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
During the meeting, the two ministers discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations between Iraq and Syria and expand cooperation in the political, economic, and commercial fields. They also reviewed a number of issues of mutual concern, particularly border-related files.
According to the source, Iraqi Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein reaffirmed Baghdad's commitment to deepening relations with Damascus and supporting regional stability. For his part, Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani expressed Syria's readiness to enhance cooperation and elevate bilateral ties in a manner that reflects the deep-rooted relations between the two countries.
Both sides stressed the importance of activating the work of the Iraqi-Syrian Joint Committee and broadening coordination across various sectors in a way that serves their mutual interests.
