Kurdistan Democratic Party Calls on Political Parties to Reactivate Kurdistan Parliament

Jun 28 2026

ARK News.. On Saturday, June 27, 2026, the Political Bureau of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) called on the political parties that won seats in the sixth-term Kurdistan Parliament elections to assume their national and moral responsibilities to overcome the current political deadlock and reactivate the Kurdistan Parliament.

The following is the full statement issued by the KDP Political Bureau:

Dear Citizens,
Esteemed Political Parties Represented in the Kurdistan Parliament,

Since the conclusion of the sixth-term Kurdistan Parliament elections and the announcement of the results, we have, out of a sense of responsibility and concern for the situation in the Kurdistan region, worked to reactivate the region's legitimate institutions in accordance with the applicable laws.

Despite the messages, communications, and continuous efforts undertaken by President Masoud Barzani and our party to promote dialogue, mutual understanding, and finding solutions to the issues hindering the reactivation of Parliament, the election of the Region's presidency, and the formation of the tenth cabinet, and despite presenting a range of scenarios and practical solutions to overcome the political deadlock facing the Region—through bilateral and multilateral meetings, initiatives, delegations, official messages, and visits—regrettably, the required positive response and constructive positions have not materialized.

The current circumstances in the region in general, and in the Kurdistan Region in particular, place upon us a national, patriotic, and moral responsibility to find a swift solution to this undesirable situation. Its continuation serves no party's interests; rather, it harms the Kurdistan Region, its democratic experience, and its hard-earned achievements.

Therefore, since meetings, delegations, visits, official correspondence, and our efforts to move discussions and dialogue over these issues from the streets and media to the negotiating table have not produced tangible results, we call on all parties represented in Parliament—whether holding many seats or only a few—to proceed with reactivating the Kurdistan Parliament, enabling lawmakers inside the parliamentary chamber to assume their responsibility for conducting constructive dialogue and reaching appropriate solutions. We further call on all parties to abide by the course of action and decisions adopted within the Kurdistan Parliament.

Political Bureau
