Global Oil Companies Resume Production in the Kurdistan Region
ARK News.. Norwegian energy company DNO has announced the resumption of oil production at its fields in the Kurdistan Region, joining a growing number of international companies that have decided to restart operations after a period of suspension.
According to Kurdish media reports, DNO will resume production at the Tawke and Pish Khabour oil fields, while HKN Energy is preparing to restart operations at the Atrosh field on Sunday.
The developments follow the earlier resumption of production by Gulf Keystone and HKN Energy, while Hunt Oil has scheduled July 8 as the date to restart its operations. Other companies are expected to resume production gradually in the coming stages.
Reports indicate that eight of the 11 oil companies operating in the Kurdistan Region had previously suspended their activities. With the phased return of these companies, total daily crude oil production is expected to reach approximately 170,000 barrels per day.
The Kurdistan Region is home to eight major oil fields that form the backbone of its energy sector: Khurmala, Tawke, Pish Khabour, Shaikan, Atrosh, Sarsang, Erbil, and Bijil-Harir.
Oil exports from the Kurdistan Region through the pipeline network have remained suspended since May 2023, resulting in financial losses estimated in the billions of dollars for both the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Iraqi federal government.
