Turkish Government Exempts Syrians from Work Permit Requirement
ARK News.. The Turkish government has announced that Syrian refugees under temporary protection will be exempt from the requirement to obtain a work permit in order to work in Turkey.
Turkish Interior Minister Mustafa “Çiftçi” said on Friday, June 26, 2026, during a consultative and evaluation meeting on migration, that the ministry had decided to exempt Syrians from the work permit requirement to facilitate their access to employment in Turkey.
The minister said the decision was made after considering the country's labor market needs, which are being met in part by Syrian workers.
"We have abolished the requirement to obtain a work permit and granted a work permit exemption to foreigners under temporary protection," Çiftçi said. “Çiftçi” added that more than 1.434 million people have voluntarily returned to their home countries since 2016, while 2.259 million Syrians currently remain under temporary protection in Turkey.
