Germany Hosts General Conference of the International Kurdish Language Union
ARK News.. The General Conference of the International Kurdish Language Union opens today, Saturday, June 27, 2026, in Germany, bringing together academics, politicians, and representatives of Kurdish schools from around the world to develop comprehensive strategies aimed at preserving Kurdish cultural identity and the mother tongue among Kurdish generations in the diaspora.
The International Kurdish Language Union, established in 2024 with the direct support and patronage of President Masoud Barzani, is one of the leading institutions operating under the umbrella of the Kurdistan Diaspora Union, supervised by Shiva Barzani.
The conference seeks to mark a significant turning point in strengthening the linguistic ties of younger generations in the diaspora to their Kurdish roots while promoting a positive image of Kurdish culture on the international stage.
A total of 120 Union members are expected to attend, representing a distinguished group of professors, linguists, and academic figures from both the Kurdistan Region and abroad.
The event will also be attended by representatives of Kurdish political parties, members of parliament, and prominent political figures from Germany, alongside delegations from 35 schools specializing in Kurdish-language education worldwide.
Discussions will highlight achievements made in several European countries, particularly in the Nordic countries, where Kurdish has been officially recognized as a mother tongue and incorporated into government education systems for Kurdish children.
The conference will also focus on ways to further develop this international educational model, expand its reach, and strengthen academic and educational cooperation between institutions in the Kurdistan Region and their counterparts abroad.
