According to the Wall Street Journal, the new round of talks is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, with both parties seeking to reach common ground despite a “wide gap” in their positions, citing sources from the White House.
The newspaper outlined the United States’ reasons for the talks, as circulated in media reports:
Reopening the Strait of Hormuz to international navigation.
Halting uranium enrichment for 20 years.
Setting clear limits on missile program development.
Ending support for armed groups in the region.
According to the report, Iran’s conditions for the talks include:
Maintaining control over the Strait of Hormuz.
Full lifting of imposed sanctions.
Reducing the duration proposed by Washington for banning uranium enrichment.
These negotiations are taking place under a two-week truce reached through direct mediation by Pakistan, aimed at providing an opportunity for diplomatic solutions. Islamabad has imposed unprecedented security measures in the capital to host high-level delegations, in an effort to bring an end to the ongoing conflict in the region.
