President Barzani, Turkish Ambassador Discuss Latest Regional Developments
ARK News.. President Masoud Barzani and the Turkish Ambassador to Iraq, Anil Bora Inan, discussed the latest developments across the region during a meeting held on Thursday, June 4, 2026.
The meeting, which was also attended by Erman “Topçu”, Turkey’s Consul General in Erbil, highlighted the importance of resolving outstanding issues with Baghdad.
The Turkish ambassador expressed his country's appreciation for the Kurdistan Region’s “wise” policy of restraint and its efforts to remain detached from regional conflicts.
According to a statement issued by Barzani’s headquarters, the two sides exchanged views on recent regional developments, ongoing tensions, and conflicts affecting the wider Middle East.
The statement noted that Ambassador Inan praised the Kurdistan Region’s prudent approach based on self-restraint, emphasizing that despite attempts to draw the Region into regional confrontations, as well as the attacks and bombardments it has faced, the Kurdistan Region has made every effort to avoid becoming a party to the wars and tensions witnessed across the region.
Part of the discussions also focused on developments following the formation of the Iraqi government, relations between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad, and ties between the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and Iraqi political forces.
Both sides expressed hope that efforts would continue toward resolving existing problems, achieving full coordination across various sectors, and removing current obstacles and challenges, the statement said.
The statement added that discussions also covered relations between the Federal Republic of Iraq, the Kurdistan Region, and Turkey, including the outcomes of the recent visit by Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani to Turkey.
Both sides stressed the importance of further strengthening bilateral relations and deepening the bonds of friendship. Internal developments in the Kurdistan Region and efforts aimed at revitalizing the political process also featured prominently in the talks.
