ARK News.. Syrian Finance Minister Mohammad Barniya affirmed that the Damascus government is currently implementing a comprehensive fiscal and tax reform plan, emphasizing that Syria will not wait for international financial institutions to begin its long-overdue reforms.

Speaking at the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank in Washington, Barniya stated that “Syria will not fund any project in which the private sector is not involved, nor will it compete with it.” He stressed the vital role of domestic and foreign investors in the country’s reconstruction process and in restoring international confidence in Syria’s financial system.

The minister explained that funding for infrastructure and reconstruction projects in Syria will rely primarily on local and international private investment, rather than on loans or international aid.

Barniya added that while Syria needs the support of the World Bank and IMF due to their pivotal role in advancing reform and development, the government will continue implementing its reform agenda even without external assistance if such support is delayed.
