Faisal Youssef: Enduring Syrian Unity Can Only Be Built on Justice and Genuine Partnership

ARK News.. Faisal Youssef, spokesperson for the Kurdish National Council (KNC) in Syria, emphasized that only through deep-rooted justice and genuine partnership can a lasting and resilient Syrian unity be established.
Writing on his official Facebook page, Youssef commented on the recent article by former U.S. envoy James Jeffrey, published by the Washington Institute on October 9, which discussed the concept of “uniting Syria.” Youssef noted that Jeffrey’s proposal “cannot be separated from the core of the long-standing national crisis that has plagued the country for more than a decade.”
He added:
“Syrian unity remains both a necessity and a mission, but it is not merely a matter of geography. It is a project to rebuild the state on foundations of democracy and justice that guarantee the rights of all components. The Kurdish people are a fundamental partner in this process and in the struggle against tyranny and terrorism.”
Youssef underscored that any credible approach to resolving the conflict must be based on a comprehensive political transition and must include constitutional recognition of the Kurdish people’s national rights as well as the adoption of decentralization as structural guarantees for unity and sustainable stability in Syria.
He warned that overlooking these fundamental principles or reducing the Kurdish question to a purely security, administrative, or economic issue “empties it of its national essence” and risks “reproducing the Syrian crisis in new forms,” while eroding the foundations of trust and genuine national partnership.
Youssef concluded:
“Only through entrenched justice and true partnership within the homeland can we establish a permanent and fortified Syrian unity—one that safeguards the rights of all its people and opens the path toward a democratic and secure future for every Syrian.”
