ARK News… The Syrian Kurdish Journalists Network issued a statement about the kidnapping of journalist Rakan al-Ahmad by PYD militants, in which it condemned his continued detention for the fourth day in a row, and demanded his release with an explanation of the reasons for the arrest.

An armed group affiliated with the security services in the Democratic Self-Administration arrested journalist Rakan Ahmed, correspondent for the “Nodem Rojava” agency, in the town of Girke Lage located in northeastern Syria, on Friday, March 29, 2024, and took him to an unknown destination.
Journalist Rakan’s father explained to the Office for Monitoring and Documenting Violations in the Syrian Kurdish Journalists Network that an “armed, masked group that included between 10-15 members raided their house at breakfast time, where they searched the entire house and confiscated all of the family’s phones (7 mobile phones).
The detained journalist works with the Nudem Rojava Agency, a media outlet licensed in the Autonomous Administration areas by the Information Department. Despite this, the officers refused to give any information about the reasons for his arrest, or reveal the party that issued the order.
The Office for Monitoring and Documenting Violations in the Syrian Kurdish Journalists Network condemns the arrest as a violation of his human and journalistic rights, especially since he works with a licensed agency, well-known to local authorities and media circles.
The network also demands the release of journalist Rakan Ahmed, explaining the reasons for the arrest, ensuring that he or other journalists and activists are not subjected to such arbitrary violations, and putting an end to them through transparent and fair procedures in accordance with the Media Law of the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, which guarantees freedom of opinion and expression.

The Kurdish National Council condemns the terrorist bombing in the city of Izaz

It is worth noting that the journalist Marwan Liani is a member of the Girke Lakki local council of the Kurdish National Council and works as an independent journalist.
The Kurdish National Council strongly condemns these acts of terror and violations that contradict the most basic human rights, and calls on community organizations and the international coalition to work to prevent these repeated acts of terror on a daily basis.

Iran threatens Israel to respond to the targeting of its consulate in Damascus

More than 100 civilians were killed during the month of March in Syria

The United Nations launches a program in Syria to circumvent sanctions with Gulf money

أصدرت شبكة الصحفيين الكورد السوريين بيانا حول اختطاف الإعلامي راكان الأحمد من قبل مسلحي PYD, وأدانت فيه استمرار اعتقاله لليوم الرابع على التوالي, وطالبت بالإفراج عنه مع بيان أسباب الاعتقال.
فيما يلي نص البيان:
اعتقلت مجموعة مسلحة تابعة للأجهزة الأمنية في الإدارة الذاتية الديمقراطية، الصحفي راكان أحمد، مراسل وكالة «نودم روج آفا» في بلدة كركي لكي/ المعبدة، الواقعة شمال شرقي سوريا، يوم الجمعة 29 آذار 2024، واقتادته إلى جهة مجهولة.
وأوضح والد الصحفي «راكان» لمكتب رصد وتوثيق الانتهاكات في شبكة الصحفيين الكورد السوريين، أن مجموعة «مسلحة ملثمة كانت تضم بين 10-15 عنصراً قاموا بمداهمة منزلهم في وقت الإفطار، حيث قاموا بتفتيش المنزل بالكامل، ومصادرة جميع هواتف العائلة (7 موبايلات).
يعمل الصحفي المعتقل مع وكالة «نودم روج آفا»، وهي وسيلة إعلامية مرخصة في مناطق الإدارة الذاتية، من قبل دائرة الإعلام، ورغم ذلك رفض العناصر إعطاء أيّة معلومات عن أسباب اعتقاله، أو الكشف عن الجهة التي أصدرت الأمر.
إن مكتب رصد وتوثيق الانتهاكات في شبكة الصحفيين الكورد السوريين، تدين عملية الاعتقال بوصفها انتهاكاً لحقوقه الإنسانية والصحفية، خاصةً وأنه يعمل مع وكالة مرخصة، ومعروفة لدى السلطات المحلية ودوائر الإعلام.
كما تطالب الشبكة بالإفراج عن الصحفي راكان أحمد، مع بيان أسباب الاعتقال، وضمان عدم تعرضه أو غيره من الصحفيين والناشطين لمثل هذه الانتهاكات التعسفية، ووضع حدٍ لها عبر إجراءات شفافة ونزيهة وفقاً لقانون الإعلام في الإدارة الذاتية الديمقراطية لشمال وشرقي سوريا، الذي يضمن حرية الرأي والتعبير.
