Syrian National Council strongly Criticizes PYD for Closing Assyrian School

ARK News: The so called Democratic Federal System of Northern Syria, founded by the Democratic Union Party (PYD) in Malikiye, has decided to close the Assyrian school in the city of Derbesiye under the pretext of an unacceptable Kurdish curriculum, the Syrian National Council (SNC) said in a statement.
The SNC has condemned the move, noting that the school had always been a legal institution since its foundation in 1935. It also said that the decision is to oppress the weaker Assyrian minority as it will cause the Arab and Assyrian children, including the Kurdish ones, to fall behind in their study.
The national council has called for a cancellation to the school’s closure, urging the PYD to put an end to such activities.
The Assyrian figures in the area met on August 18 in the city of Qamishlo and they criticized the Kurdish self-administration's intervention in the religious minority’s affairs
"The schools are as valuable as the churches to us," they said.
