Jordanian Army Intercepts 18 Iranian Ballistic Missiles
ARK News.. The Jordanian Armed Forces said Wednesday, September 9, 2026, that its air-defense systems had intercepted and destroyed 18 of 20 Iranian ballistic missiles launched toward Jordanian territory.
The spokesperson for the Jordanian Armed Forces said in a statement that two other missiles fell in unpopulated areas, adding that no casualties were reported in the attack.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced early Wednesday that it had targeted al-Azraq Air Base in Jordan with heavy ballistic missiles in retaliation for U.S. strikes on Iranian oil tankers. The IRGC vowed to continue its military operations as long as U.S. attacks persist.
The attack came after the U.S. military announced the destruction of five Iranian crude oil tankers following Iranian ballistic missile attacks on a U.S. Navy warship.
The latest escalation marks a significant expansion of the confrontation between Washington and Tehran, with Iran increasingly targeting U.S. military assets and American allies in the region.
