Qamishlo Residents Protest Rising Diesel and Generator Electricity Prices
ARK News.. Residents of Qamishlo in Syrian Kurdistan have protested rising diesel and generator electricity prices, saying the increases have placed an additional burden on households amid the region’s difficult economic conditions.
A protest continued in Qamishlo on Sunday, September 6, 2026, for the third consecutive day, with residents demonstrating against rising diesel prices and their impact on living costs, as well as the significant increase in generator electricity rates. The protesters called on the relevant authorities to intervene and take measures to reduce prices.
During the protest, demonstrators raised demands concerning living and service conditions, stressing that higher diesel and generator electricity prices had placed an additional burden on residents amid the difficult economic situation in the region.
A number of protesters also headed to the district administration building, where they submitted their demands to the relevant authorities. They called for their demands to be addressed and for measures to be taken to ease the economic burden on citizens.
While the protesters were outside the district administration building, however, the ARK News team was prevented from filming at the site, preventing the documentation of part of the protest.
Recent reports indicate that rising fuel costs have contributed to higher operating costs for generators in Qamishlo, with local authorities recently putting the cost of operating one ampere at $1.25 per hour.
