ARK News… On the occasion of the twelfth anniversary of its founding, the Kurdish National Council in Syria confirmed, in a statement, that despite the difficulties and obstacles that obstructed its struggle, it still represents the most prominent figure in its representation of the Kurdish people in Syria.

The Kurdish National Council said that it "adopted the democratic struggle to achieve its program and goals and defined its vision for the desired Syria in a democratic, secular, federal, multi-national and multi-religious state, whose constitution recognizes the national rights of the Kurdish people in Syria, and the rights of the rest of the national components."

Adding that it "has always sought to unify the Kurdish position and ranks, and has spared no effort in making President Masoud Barzani's initiatives successful in its efforts for that."

Below is the full text of the statement:

The twenty-sixth of October marks the twelfth anniversary of the announcement of the establishment of the Kurdish National Council in Syria, at a time when many countries in the region witnessed a popular movement against their dictatorial regimes, including Syria, with the aim of changing the regime and ending the tyranny that has subjected Syrians to various forms of torture for decades.

In line with the developments that occurred, the Kurdish National Movement was able to frame its struggle and unify its visions in a founding conference from which the Kurdish National Council emerged as a political alliance that included most of the Kurdish parties, youth coordination, women’s organizations, and social and cultural activities of the Kurdish people.

It adopted the democratic struggle to achieve its program and goals and defined its vision of the desired Syria in a democratic, federal, multi-national and multi-religious state, whose constitution recognizes the national rights of the Kurdish people in Syria, and the rights of the rest of the national components. It condemned the security and military approach of the regime in dealing with the crisis and saw a political solution as a way to reach it in the country to safety.

It also made its choice to stand with the demands of the Syrian people for freedom and dignity, and to be a true partner in shaping the future of the country. To that end, it worked with the national opposition forces and joined the National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces in 2013 based on a document that included recognition of the national identity of the Kurdish people in Syria and an acknowledgment of their national rights.

The Council participated in the Geneva conferences as part of the coalition delegation and also as one of the components of the negotiating body since the Riyadh II conference in 2017, as well as in the Constitutional Committee, and it still stands by any international political effort that ends the suffering of the Syrians in finding a final solution in accordance with UN resolutions, most notably 2254.

The Council has always sought to unify the Kurdish position and ranks, and has spared no effort to make President Masoud Barzani’s initiatives successful in his efforts for that.

With the halt of the political process to find a solution to the Syrian crisis, which was sponsored by the United Nations, and the decline of international interest in it, after the emergence of hotter areas of international and regional conflicts, the suffering of the Syrians increased, and the regime’s intransigence in its rejection of international resolutions increased.

The war in the Gaza Strip, where Israel targeted the Hamas movement, came after the latter launched armed attacks on its settlements in the Gaza Strip, causing the loss of the lives of thousands of civilians in tragic scenes and making the situation more complicated.

The Kurdish National Council calls on the international community and the United Nations to find a peaceful solution to the issues and conflicts in the region through the implementation of international legitimacy resolutions, including those related to the situation in Syria, most notably Resolution 2254, the best way to achieve peace, security and stability in the region and the world.

The Kurdish National Council has always worked to condemn the violations against all Syrians and from any party, as well as the crimes and violations to which the people of Afrin, Sere Kaniye and Girê Spi are exposed. It demanded the removal of the armed factions there from the populated areas and the cessation of attempts at demographic change there and in any part of the country. Syria, facilitating the safe return of the displaced to their homes and handing over its administration to its original inhabitants.

He also condemned the violations that people are exposed to in areas under the control of the PYD administration by its militants and security agencies under various names, the kidnapping of minors, male and female, to recruit them, and the decisions and procedures that increase their miserable living conditions and push them to search for ways to emigrate.
It also condemned the continued detention of members of the Kurdish National Council.

To strengthen the national role of the Council, it contributed to building the Front for Peace and Freedom with both the Syrian Tomorrow Movement and the Assyrian Democratic Organization as a framework open to the opposition national forces that believe in a political solution and democratic action and adopt international legitimacy resolutions, especially Resolution 2254.

Despite the difficulties and obstacles that obstructed its struggle, the Council still represents the most prominent figure in its representation of the Kurdish people in Syria and in order to find a solution to the Kurdish issue and achieve the national and patriotic goals it set, to be a key to building the future Syria as a federal, democratic state for all Syrians in which there is no place for tyranny and slavery.
