ARK News.. The spokesperson for the Commander-in-Chief of the Iraqi Armed Forces has revealed new details about efforts to strengthen Iraq’s air-defense capabilities, as well as developments in ongoing negotiations with armed factions over handing their weapons to the federal government.

According to Kurdistan24, Sabah al-Nu’man, spokesperson for the Commander-in-Chief of the Iraqi Armed Forces, said Iraq has completed the purchase of several advanced air-defense systems, with the first batch expected to arrive in the country soon.

Al-Nu’man said some of the systems will be deployed in the Kurdistan Region to strengthen protection of its airspace.

Iraq has been accelerating its plans to modernize its air-defense network, with the government reducing an earlier six-year development plan to three years. The accelerated program is expected to include medium- and long-range radar systems, missile capabilities, and advanced command-and-control systems.
