Britain Introduces Legislation to Tighten Sanctions on Iran

Sep 08 2026

ARK News.. The British government has introduced legislation to tighten sanctions on Iran, expand trade restrictions, and strengthen powers to target vessels as part of broader efforts to curb Tehran’s nuclear program and other activities it considers hostile.

According to Reuters, British Foreign Office Minister Stephen Doughty said in a statement that the measures would restrict Iran’s access to the British financial system and expand trade bans to cover additional goods, technologies, and services.

The legislation would also prevent Iranian aircraft from landing in Britain except in exceptional circumstances.

Doughty said the new measures would strengthen Britain’s efforts to limit Iran’s nuclear ambitions and help ensure that Iran would never be able to acquire a nuclear weapon.

The move comes amid heightened tensions over Iran’s nuclear activities and growing international pressure on Tehran to comply with its nuclear obligations and allow international inspectors greater access to its nuclear facilities.
