Nechirvan Barzani Receives Russian Ambassador to Iraq Elbrus Kutrashev
ARK News.. Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani received Russian Ambassador to Iraq Elbrus Kutrashev on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, on the occasion of the conclusion of his diplomatic mission in Iraq.
During the meeting, President Nechirvan Barzani praised Kutrashev’s efforts to strengthen and develop Russia’s relations with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, wishing him success in his new duties.
For his part, the Russian ambassador expressed his appreciation for the cooperation and support extended by the Kurdistan Region Presidency and relevant authorities throughout his tenure. He reaffirmed Russia’s desire to further strengthen and develop its relations with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
The two sides also discussed relations between Erbil and Baghdad and the latest regional developments.
The meeting was attended by Russia’s Consul General in Erbil and an accompanying delegation.
