Nearly 60,000 Displaced from Aleppo’s Ashrafiya and Sheikh Maqsoud Neighborhoods
ARK News.. Nearly 60,000 residents have been displaced from the Ashrafiya and Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhoods in the Syrian city of Aleppo amid ongoing clashes between Syrian authorities and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), according to official figures released by local authorities.
The Directorate of Social Affairs and Labor in Aleppo Governorate announced that the displacement continues to rise as families keep leaving the two neighborhoods due to the fighting, which began on Tuesday.
In its latest update issued on Thursday, Jan. 8, 2026, the directorate said that the number of displaced families has reached 11,806, comprising a total of 59,030 individuals who fled Ashrafiya and Sheikh Maqsoud as a result of the continued clashes.
According to the same source, the city of Afrin has received the largest share of the displaced population, hosting approximately 9,700 families, with an estimated 48,500 people arriving there from the affected neighborhoods.
The displacement from Ashrafiya and Sheikh Maqsoud marks one of the largest civilian movements recorded in Aleppo in recent months, as humanitarian needs continue to grow alongside the evolving security situation in northern Syria.
