Kurdish National Council Meets U.S. Religious Freedom Delegation in Qamishlo

The Presidency of the Kurdish National Council (KNC) in Syria received a delegation from the U.S.-based Religious Freedom Institute, headed by Nadine Maenza, with both sides emphasizing the importance of protecting Syria's religious and ethnic diversity and promoting peaceful coexistence.
The meeting, held in Qamishli, Syrian Kurdistan, on Sunday, July 12, 2026, reviewed the latest developments in Syria, with a particular focus on the Kurdish issue within the framework of a comprehensive political solution.
The participants also discussed the state of public freedoms, cultural diversity, and the need to safeguard Syria's religious and ethnic pluralism while promoting the values of peaceful coexistence and dialogue, as a means of strengthening stability and building a future that guarantees dignity and rights for all Syrians.
The KNC delegation stressed the need to constitutionally guarantee the rights of the Kurdish people and to establish a pluralistic, decentralized state that ensures the rights of all components of the Syrian people and respects human rights.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides underscored the importance of maintaining dialogue in support of issues of mutual concern, promoting stability, and backing peaceful efforts to achieve a comprehensive political solution that fulfills the aspirations of all components of the Syrian people.
