ARK News.. During the International Conference on Peace and Democratic Society held in Istanbul, a message from President Masoud Barzani was delivered on Saturday, 6 December 2025, by Amina Zikri, a member of the Kurdistan Democratic Party’s Political Bureau. The message outlined President Barzani’s position on the renewed peace process in Turkey and Northern Kurdistan.

President Barzani emphasized that “dialogue and understanding are always the best option compared to war and tension, and humanity is the biggest winner when dialogue and peace prevail.”

He noted that the region is going through an extremely delicate phase, calling on all parties to draw lessons from the mistakes of the past.

President Barzani expressed his full support for the peace process in Turkey, saying: “I deeply appreciate the efforts of the Turkish government, President Erdogan, and Mr. Ocalan for creating the opportunity to launch the peace process and negotiations.”

He concluded his message by reaffirming his support for any effort that contributes to the peace process and strengthens the bonds of brotherhood and coexistence among the peoples of the region.

A high-level women’s delegation from the Kurdistan Region also participated in an international summit on local governance held in Istanbul.

Amina Zikri stated in a Facebook post that the International Leadership Summit for Women in Local Governance opened on Friday, 5 January 2025, with the attendance of Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and the participation of Bayan Sami, advisor to Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani.

The conference, organized by the Women’s Affairs Directorate of Turkey’s Justice and Development Party (AKP), runs from 4 to 6 January 2025. It aims to strengthen the role of women leaders in local-level governance and administration.

Zikri added that the forum brings together prominent women leaders from Turkey and abroad—including ministers, mayors, academics, and local government officials—to discuss key issues such as women and family policies, climate change and the environment, disaster risk management and resilient cities, migration, integration and social cohesion, smart cities, and digital transformation.
