The goal of International Mother Language Day is to contribute to the promotion of education for global citizenship and to ensure a significant literacy and numeracy rate among young people by 2030.
The initiative to celebrate International Mother Language Day came from Bangladesh and was approved by the UNESCO General Conference in 1999.
This day has been celebrated since 2000, and Bangladesh chose February 21, as it commemorates the struggle of its people for the recognition of the Bengali language.
The Kurdish language is part of the Indo-European language family and has a number of dialects spoken by the Kurds in Greater Kurdistan (with its four parts) and in the diaspora.
It contains 735,320 keywords, making it the third most word-containing language after Finnish and Korean, while the Kurdish language with all its dialects contains a total of 1,200,000 million words.
