Syrian Telecommunications Grants Licenses to Five Internet Service Providers
ARK News.. Syrian Minister of Communications and Technology, Hussein al-Masri, announced that the ministry has granted licenses to five internet service providers (ISPs) and plans to license 20 more companies within the next two weeks. This move aims to accelerate investment processes, which previously took over a year under the ousted regime.
In a statement to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), al-Masri emphasized the government’s commitment to improving service quality and enhancing Syria’s global ranking in telecommunications. "The Syrian people deserve the utmost effort to enhance service quality, in stark contrast to the policies of the previous regime, which neglected citizens' needs," he stated.
Al-Masri highlighted that the coming phase would witness real cooperation between the public and private sectors, focusing on service quality and affordability to align with citizens' income levels. He also reaffirmed the government’s intent to create a strong role for private sector investments, leveraging their potential to provide better services.
The minister stressed the importance of attracting private sector investments by fostering a supportive regulatory and legislative environment. This approach aims to deliver high-quality internet services at reasonable prices, reducing the financial burden on citizens and improving their standard of living.
While acknowledging that Wi-Fi remains a temporary solution, Al-Masri pointed to a long-term strategy involving Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) technology, which will be implemented as part of the ministry’s broader development plans.
