Japan provides $7 million to enhance the lives of affected children in Syria
ARK News… The Government of Japan has made a major contribution of $7 million to UNICEF, a United Nations agency, to support children and their families in areas affected by earthquakes and the ongoing conflict in Syria.
This contribution comes to provide clean water, good sanitation services, and hygiene supplies, as well as support educational services. “Japan remains committed to supporting children affected by conflicts and earthquakes in Syria,” said Hirofumi Miyake, Chargé affairs and Special Coordinator of Japan for Syria.
He stressed that this contribution aims to "focus on the long-term needs of children, allowing them to access basic life such as education, water, sanitation and hygiene."
According to UNICEF, this partnership with Japan will help rehabilitate water facilities and sanitation networks that were damaged as a result of the earthquakes. It will also work to enhance educational opportunities for children by rehabilitating schools, providing safe learning environments, and providing non-formal education for out-of-school children.
Efforts will also contribute to building the capacities of teachers and education workers. This contribution comes as part of Japan's comprehensive commitment, providing an amount of US$49.9 million between 2020 and 2023 to support vulnerable children and families in Syria, and effectively strengthens international efforts to improve the living conditions of the affected Syrian community.
