Former parliamentarian and social figure Riving Harori has confirmed that the village of Haror, located in Duhok Governorate, has been nominated for the “Best Tourism Village in the World” award. He noted that the availability of essential services, particularly internet connectivity, has played a major role in encouraging younger generations to return to the village.
According to Kurdistan24, Harori expressed his pride in the nomination, saying: “We are very proud that Haror has been included among the villages nominated for the Best Tourism Village award. This international competition has provided a strong incentive for all of us to pay greater attention to the tourism sector in the region.”
Harori also praised the role of the Kurdistan Regional Government in providing infrastructure, stating: “We thank the government for implementing water, school, and electricity projects. We also appreciate the efforts of Korek Telecom, which installed telecommunications towers in the area. In the past, young people were reluctant to come to the village because there was no internet service. Now, with network coverage available, the younger generation visits the village with great enthusiasm.”
Speaking about the cultural dimension, Harori said that young people have become increasingly eager to reconnect with traditional customs and practices.
“For example, during Eid al-Adha, one person prepares food for all the residents of the village. This combination of longstanding traditions and a modern spirit has encouraged the younger generation to follow in the footsteps of their ancestors,” he said.
He added: “Kurdistan has now moved beyond the era of rifles and wars and entered an era of construction and development.”
Regarding environmental protection, Harori highlighted the role of religious leaders and the local community, saying: “The imams of Haror dedicate their Friday sermons to discussing the importance of environmental protection. We have also designated the second day of every holiday as ‘Haror Environment Day,’ during which all villagers gather to clean the entire area, from the natural springs to the outskirts of the village, as a collective initiative to promote a culture of cleanliness.”
The nomination is expected to draw further attention to Haror as a tourism destination, highlighting its natural beauty, cultural heritage, community traditions, and environmental initiatives.
