Two Syrian Security Personnel Killed and Five Injured in Clashes with ISIS Cell in Damascus Countryside
ARK News.. Two members of Syria’s Internal Security Forces were killed and five others injured during clashes with a cell affiliated with the terrorist organization ISIS in the town of Rankous, in the western Damascus countryside.
The Internal Security Forces announced on Thursday, October 22, 2026, that their units, in cooperation with the General Intelligence Service, carried out a security raid early that morning targeting a location where an ISIS-affiliated cell was entrenched in the town. The raid triggered clashes that resulted in one fatality and five injuries among its ranks, according to the statement.
Meanwhile, local sources reported that a large-scale security alert had been imposed across the town, with patrols deployed and searches and operations to track down wanted individuals underway. They also said classes at schools and work at government offices had been suspended to protect civilians.
On October 16, the General Intelligence Service, in cooperation with the Internal Security Forces, announced that it had foiled a plot by an ISIS-affiliated cell to target a police patrol in the Damascus countryside province. Security operations to pursue the group’s cells have continued in several Syrian areas and towns.
