President Barzani Thanks the United States for Supporting the Kurdistan Region in the War Against ISIS

ARK News.. President Masoud Barzani received Gwendolyn “Wendy” Green, the U.S. Consul General in Erbil, in Pirmam on Wednesday, October 14, 2026.
During the meeting, Green expressed her pleasure at beginning her duties as the U.S. consul in the Kurdistan Region, affirming that she would continue working to strengthen and develop bilateral relations between the Kurdistan Region and the United States.
She also said that the United States considers itself a key supporter of the people of Kurdistan and has particular respect for President Barzani’s standing in Iraq and the wider region. She expressed hope that the Kurdistan Region would continue to play its longstanding role in promoting regional stability.
For his part, President Barzani warmly welcomed the U.S. consul general to Erbil and thanked the United States for its support and assistance to the Kurdistan Region during the war against ISIS terrorists. He described the resumption of the U.S. Consulate’s activities in the Kurdistan Region as a positive step toward advancing relations between the two sides across various fields.
The meeting also included an exchange of views on the general situation in the region, with both sides emphasizing the need to strengthen the foundations of security and stability.
