Masrour Barzani and Mohammed Shia al-Sudani Discuss Latest Developments in Iraq and the Region

ARK News.. Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani received Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, head of the Reconstruction and Development Coalition and former Iraqi federal prime minister, on Monday, October 12, 2026.

The meeting included an exchange of views on the latest developments in Iraq and the wider region, as well as discussions on relations between the Kurdistan Region and the federal government.

The two sides agreed on the importance of strengthening cooperation and coordination among Iraqi political forces to support the federal government, increase public revenues, address challenges, and provide the best possible services to all citizens and communities without discrimination.

In another part of the discussions, Prime Minister Barzani stressed the need to respect the Kurdistan Region’s constitutional status and safeguard its financial entitlements. He also emphasized that the Region’s share of the 2027 federal budget should be set on a fair basis, amounting to 14% of the total population, in accordance with the officially approved results of the 2024 general population census.
