Hasaka: Electricity Generator Owners Strike Over New Pricing

Sep 04 2026

ARK News.. Electricity generator owners in the city of Hasakah announced a comprehensive strike, protesting the newly approved official pricing for operating generators.

According to local sources, the strike coincides with a decision to lift subsidies on generator diesel fuel, forcing owners to purchase it at the market price, which has reached approximately 12,000 Syrian pounds per liter. Meanwhile, the price of one ampere for operating generators for eight hours per day was set at $10 per month.

Local sources said that a large number of citizens have confirmed their intention to cancel their subscriptions if the current pricing continues, due to their inability to afford the costs. On the other hand, generator owners believe that the $10-per-ampere price does not reflect the sharp rise in operating costs, calling for the price per ampere to be raised to a minimum of $16 to ensure the continuation of the service and cover maintenance, oil, and breakdown expenses.

The escalation comes at a time when reliance on subscription generators is considered almost inevitable in Hasakah, due to the near-constant interruption of the public electricity supply. This makes any halt in generator operations a direct threat to daily life, commercial activity, and service sectors in the city.
