ARK News.. The National Commission for the Missing announced that it has reached what it described as “reliable and corroborated” findings that allow it to conclude, with a high degree of professional certainty, that the children of Rania al-Abbasi are deceased, as part of its efforts to determine the fate of missing and forcibly disappeared persons in Syria.

In a statement issued on Saturday, May 30, 2026, the commission said that the findings resulted from multiple verification and analytical procedures, including the review of information, evidence, and materials related to the case, in coordination with the relevant national authorities.

The commission explained that members of the children's family were informed of the findings before they were made public, in accordance with a humanitarian and professional protocol that respects the family’s right to know while safeguarding their dignity and psychological well-being. It added that the conclusions were based on investigations and analyses that underwent review and evaluation in line with established professional standards.

The commission emphasized that efforts to locate and identify the children's remains are still ongoing in cooperation with the competent authorities. It further stressed that it would not publish any visual materials or information that could compromise the dignity of the children or violate the privacy of their family, calling on media outlets and the public to handle the case responsibly and respectfully and to refrain from circulating unverified information.

The National Commission for the Missing reaffirmed its commitment to continuing its work to uncover the fate of missing persons in Syria through a professional, humanitarian, and legal approach, while extending its condolences and sympathy to the family.

The commission was established under Presidential Decree No. 19 of 2025 and is tasked with addressing the issue of missing and forcibly disappeared persons throughout Syria.
