Prince Hazim Tahsin Beg Warns of Repeat of Sinjar Tragedy Against Yezidis in Aleppo
ARK News.. Prince Hazim Tahsin Saeed, the Emir of the Yezidis in Iraq and the world and head of the Supreme Yezidi Spiritual Council, has warned of the risk of a new genocide against Yezidis, Kurds, and other communities in the Syrian city of Aleppo, urging urgent international intervention to prevent a repeat of the 2014 Sinjar tragedy.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Jan. 8, 2026, Prince Hazim Tahsin said the Supreme Yezidi Spiritual Council has received numerous appeals from Yezidis trapped in the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiya neighborhoods of Aleppo, where they are enduring dire humanitarian conditions amid an ongoing siege. He added that others have been forced to flee toward unknown destinations in search of safety.
“The council has received many pleas from Yazidis who are living under extremely difficult humanitarian conditions in Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiya, while others have been compelled to escape to unknown areas in search of security,” Prince Hazim said.
He noted that the council is joining the voices of leaders and elders calling for an immediate halt to the bloodshed in Aleppo and for an end to the fighting between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Syrian authorities. Prince Hazim stressed the need to keep civilians out of the conflict and to spare them both material and moral harm.
The Emir of the Yezidis also appealed to both sides to sit at the dialogue table and resolve their differences through peaceful means, emphasizing that violence would only lead to further suffering.
Prince Hazim Tahsin concluded his statement by recalling the tragedy that befell the Yezidis in Sinjar in 2014, warning against the repetition of the same catastrophe against the Yezidis in Syria and the Kurds in general.
