Afghanistan Rejects Any Deal with U.S. Over Bagram Air Base
ARK News.. A senior Taliban government official has ruled out the possibility of any agreement over the Bagram Air Base, following U.S. President Donald Trump’s warning of unspecified sanctions if the base is not returned to American control.
Speaking on Sunday, September 21, 2025, Afghan Army Chief Fasihuddin Fitrat stated: "Recently, some have said that negotiations are underway with Afghanistan to regain control of Bagram Air Base. I confirm that an agreement over even an inch of Afghan soil is impossible, and we have no need for such a deal."
Trump had written on his Truth Social platform: "If Afghanistan does not return Bagram Air Base to those who built it — the United States — bad things will happen."
Bagram, Afghanistan’s largest airbase, was a key hub for U.S.-led operations during the war against the Taliban following the September 11, 2001 attacks. Trump has frequently lamented the loss of Bagram, citing its strategic location near China, but Thursday marked the first time he publicly announced he was actively working on the issue.
