President Barzani Receives Russian Ambassador to Iraq
ARK News.. President Masoud Barzani received the Russian ambassador to Iraq, Elbrus Kutrashev, on Monday, June 22, 2026, in Pirmam.
The meeting was attended by Maksim Rubin, the Russian consul general in Erbil.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed political developments and the latest regional developments. The Russian ambassador praised the positions of the political leadership in the Kurdistan Region and its commitment to exercising restraint amid the recent wars and tensions in the region.
The discussions also focused on the situation in Syria, as well as relations between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the new Iraqi federal government, in addition to the political process in the Kurdistan Region.
Both sides reaffirmed the importance of further strengthening ties between the Kurdistan Region and Russia.
