Over 2.45 million children out of school across Syria
ARK News.. The Syrian Civil Defense has revealed that hundreds of schools are no longer operational, leaving more than 2.45 million children out of school across Syria.
In a report titled "Policy Brief: Alarming Escalation in Attacks on Schools in Northwestern Syria," the organization stated that "deliberate attacks on civilian infrastructure, including schools and educational facilities, have become a hallmark of the crisis in Syria. These attacks have not only destroyed physical structures but also shattered Syria's future."
The report highlighted those years of war have left generational scars, with the education system under immense strain. Many facilities have been partially damaged or completely destroyed, leaving a lasting impact on children. These outcomes are a direct result of targeted attacks on educational institutions and civilian neighborhoods.
The report further confirmed that more than 2.45 million children are currently out of school nationwide, with northwestern Syria recording the highest rates. In Idlib, 69% of children are out of school, while in Aleppo, the figure stands at 38%.
It noted that several factors contribute to these alarming statistics, including damage to educational facilities caused by ongoing conflict, deliberate attacks on civilian infrastructure, neighborhoods, and educational personnel, as well as the targeting of students.
