World Health expects funding for health activities in Syria to decrease by 30%
ARK News… The World Health Organization confirmed that it will continue to reduce the support provided to finance humanitarian health activities in Syria by at least 30% during the current year, after it decreased by 27% last year compared to 2022.
The Organization indicated in a report that about two million people in northwestern Syria alone may lose access to life-saving and emergency health care, in the absence of support and funding.
It pointed out that work in 15 hospitals in northwestern Syria has been suspended during the year 2023, due to a lack of funding, warning that more hospitals are at risk of closure.
For her part, the organization’s regional director for the Eastern Mediterranean, Hanan Balkhi, said: “There are currently a greater number of Syrians in need of aid than at any other time since the start of the war.”
She added: “We need to make every effort to protect and strengthen the Syrian health system so that all people across the country can obtain affordable health care services.”
