ARK News... The number of recorded fires in camps for displaced people in northwestern Syria has increased since the beginning of this year to more than 170 fires.
The "Syria Response Coordinators Team" said that within 48 hours, it recorded seven new fires in camps for displaced people in northwestern Syria, which led to the burning of more than 9 tents, caravans, and housing units, and the death of a girl and the injury of a woman and a man.
The Team added that the number of camps that have been exposed to fires since the beginning of this month has reached 12 camps, which brings the number of fires to 172 since the beginning of the year 2023.
The Team confirmed that "the overcrowding of the displaced population within a limited geographical area has increased the rate of damage within the camps and has become a threat to the lives of the displaced, especially in cases of explosion of gas cylinders and flammable materials."
called on humanitarian organizations to work to "establish firefighting points within the basic and major gatherings in the camps, including personnel trained in dealing with fires to avoid casualties."
The "Syria Response Coordinators Team also stressed "the necessity of finding suitable housing places for the displaced that can withstand various conditions near city centers and residential complexes, until appropriate conditions are created for the displaced to return to their cities and villages, which is considered the complete solution to the issue of camps in northwestern Syria."
On Tuesday, December 19, the Syrian Civil Defense announced the recording of 4 new fires, one of which was in a tent in the yard of a house in the village of Ashkan in Afrin region.
