A migrant reveals horrific details about human smuggling on the Belarusian border

Nov 26 2023

ARK News… Rain and snowfall are another suffering added to the suffering of migrants who face many sufferings and risks on the Belarusian border to cross into Poland or Latvia on the other side of the border to reach one of the European countries.

In a statement to ARK, Salar Ali, one of the migrants from Syrian Kurdistan on the Belarusian border on Saturday, November 25, 2023, said: There are thousands of migrants of all nationalities here. We face great risks, as we are beaten with sticks by border guards, in addition to them smashing our mobile phones, and shooting... Police dogs chasing us, whose bites cause serious injuries to us, in addition to the killings that have been recorded among the ranks of migrants at the border.

Salar spoke about part of the suffering of migrants, saying, “We live in difficult conditions. About five people live in one room that we rent, and each person has to pay 10 US dollars to stay for one day. The temperature these days is below zero and reaches -8 degrees Celsius.”

He added, “The cost of crossing to Latvia is (5.5 - 7.5) thousand US dollars and the cost of crossing to Poland is (4.5 - 8.5) dollars. Migrants who try to cross the Belarusian border stay about a week in the forest and if they fail to return, they have to pay about 150 dollars to a guide.” The smugglers' return route is through the forest, and whoever does not pay is left alone in the forest to return on his own, and many deaths have been recorded among migrants who get lost in the forest and are unable to get out of it. The smugglers do not deal with us as human beings, but rather look at us as a sum of money.”

Salar also added, "A week ago, hundreds of migrants from Belarus headed to the Russian-Finnish border to cross due to the dangers they face here. In the first two days, several people crossed the border, but then the Russians and Finns tightened the guard on both sides of the border, so that the situation became as on the Belarusian border."

He pointed out that they face an unknown fate and many of them have spent everything they owned during their stay in Belarus, indicating that due to the dangers facing immigrants and the recent killings, hundreds of immigrants have returned to their countries.

Every day, dozens of people from Syrian Kurdistan take the “death” roads towards Europe through smuggling. Hundreds have lost their lives on this road, and the fate of hundreds remains unknown.
