The United Nations announces the extension of UN aid entry into northern Syria until next February
ARK News… The United Nations announced the extension of allowing the delivery of UN aid to the regions of northwestern Syria through two Turkish border crossings for another three months.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said in a statement on Monday, “The UN cross-border operation remains a lifeline for people in northwestern Syria.
The United Nations and its partners provide much-needed aid and protection services every month, reaching an average of 2.5 million people, according to Reuters.
For its part, the Syrian regime's mission to the United Nations in New York confirmed the extension of the United Nations' use of the Bab al-Salam and al-Rai crossings.
The United Nations has also been using the Bab al-Hawa crossing to deliver aid to millions in northwestern Syria since 2014 with a mandate from the Security Council, but that mandate expired in mid-July because the council, which consists of 15 member states, did not reach an agreement to extend it.
The United Nations confirmed that more than 4,200 aid trucks from the international organization have used the Bab al-Hawa, Bab al-Salam and al-Rai border crossings so far this year.
