ARK News… In a statement following the conclusion of the 27th meeting of the Joint Council of the Arab Gulf States and the European Union, which was held, on Tuesday, in the Omani capital, Muscat, the attendees affirmed their country’s commitment to reaching a comprehensive political solution in Syria in accordance with international resolutions.

The statement said, "The Joint Council reaffirmed its commitment to reaching a comprehensive political solution to the Syrian crisis, in a way that preserves Syria's unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, meets the aspirations of its people, is consistent with international humanitarian law, and is consistent with UN Security Council Resolution 2254."

The statement affirmed support for the political process and the “step by step” approach, led by the Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General for Syria, Geir Pedersen, to fully implement Security Council Resolution No. 2254.

The Foreign Ministers expressed their welcome to the efforts of the Arab Ministerial Liaison Committee on Syria, “to resolve the crisis in a gradual manner,” in accordance with Security Council Resolution No. 2254, as scheduled during the ministerial meetings in Amman on May 1, 2023 and in Cairo on August 15, 2023.

They renewed their call for "the necessity of creating safe conditions for the safe, dignified and voluntary return of refugees and internally displaced persons, in accordance with United Nations standards," stressing "the importance of providing the necessary support to Syrian refugees and their host countries."

The statement also stressed "the need to ensure full, safe and unhindered access to humanitarian aid to all Syrians in need, and to support early humanitarian recovery projects."

The foreign ministers of the Arab Gulf states and the European Union discussed "strengthening cooperation to address the issue of missing persons, as set out in the Oman Statement and Security Council Resolution 2254, in coordination with all concerned parties."
